A Retail Goon Diary: "Hold My Shit"

July 31:

The department store is the only place I can think of where people get their draws in a bunch because a salesperson sells something that the shopper wants to have held for a later date.

But why is this? Usually this happens when a person either wants to wait for a better promotion or until they have the funds to make the purchase. No matter the reason, it still seems foolish to expect an item to be held even when someone else comes to make the purchase.

Let's examine this in other realms:

•A man returns to a car dealer to put the down payment on a car that he saw a week earlier. At the time, he did not have the funds, but today he has everything he needs. The only problem is that the car and all similar models have been sold or transferred. The man files a complaint against the salesman because they didn't hold the car he wanted after he requested.

•A family is selling their property. A woman feels it is a great spot for her and her husband-to-be (that she has yet to meet) to begin a life. Since she has yet to start her new job for which she hasn't been interviewed thus she has not been paid. When she returned two months later, the property had been sold and the home demolished. She continuously contacted the original owners and demanded to be sold a similar property for half the price. Why shouldn't she? The customer is ALWAYS right.

Of course these are extremes, but I can assure you as a retail goon, similar cases happen weekly if not daily.

Chill people, it's not that big of a deal.
