Dear Mr. Native Son,

Back to 1953?

You may not make it to the end of my retort. I'm going to start by asking you to take the white man's dick out your mouth. Before you do, don't forget to caress the balls.

Formalities aside, you have overlooked a small fact in your rant. Um, Blacks in the 50's had little rights to anything. Go back up your family tree or better yet travel to one of these back wood southern communities so that you can find out that Blacks often were not even allowed more than a elementary education. Due to the fact that we were so disenfranchised, the pursuit of a higher education could be deemed foolish because there was very little if any use for an education as a Black citizen in the uber racist country of the time.

Fast forward to today er 1999, the fact that 92% of your class was Black lends 8% to be non-black, which would be impossible by the 1953 standard that you are addressing. You made it seem that Blacks don't value education as much as those of the late 19th Century. Check your facts again, a good many educated African Americans looked down on the poor Black man. They were really only concerned with fellow educated African Americans.

I'm confused as to the point of your argument. Are you addressing integration on the grounds of race or the grounds of income. As we have been taught, race and income were factors during the 50's. The disparity between a wealthy Black man and a wealthy white man was huge. That gap has closed a bit now (see: Oparah). You are actually arguing in favor of integration unbeknownst to you. Integration was a step towards Civil Rights and being accepted by the country. As long as we were separate and unequal, the power structure could paint Blacks to be whatever they wanted us to be because they had little interactions with us.

Today's inconsistencies are due mainly to the fact that we as people do not participate and hold our local officials accountable. This democracy allows us the means to redraw those school districts so that our children can receive a fair education. It's cool to go to the polls to put Pres. Obama into office, but it's even cooler to go to the polls and school board meetings to make sure that our tax dollars are providing our children with a quality education. Check out the story of the Memphis City Schools push to join the Shelby County School system. Long story short, White Flight has fed the city schools with low income minority families while the county schools enjoy the lavish life of high income majority families. Guess who is fighting the merger?

Finally, I found it humorous that you included the Toronto school for Blacks. Toronto as we know is in Canada, and history has taught us that Canada did not participate in the segregated society that the good ol' U.S. of A. owned. That fact kinda makes that a irrelevant point.

Case in point: Segregation breeds discrimination. That discrimination still tears at us today and eats away at the opportunity to have a truly diverse society. Integration paved the way for our country and way of life to be more accepting of people. The new system is not perfect, but it is better than its predecessor.

Okay you can put the white man's dick back in you mouth because I know I didn't change your mind.
